Children’s Eye Examinations
As a parent, if you have concerns regarding your child's vision, make an appointment to see our team. Our practice is child-friendly and our opticians have lots of experience in paediatric eye health.
We have an excellent relationship with both Salisbury District Hospital Eye Clinic and Southampton General Hospital Eye Unit, so you can rest assured that the ocular health of your child is in the most capable hands.
What happens in a children’s eye test?
Children’s eye tests are simple, gentle, and designed to be as stress-free as possible. During the appointment, we will:
- Check your child’s vision to see if they need glasses
- Assess eye coordination and focusing ability
- Examine overall eye health to spot any early signs of concern
- Answer any questions you or your child may have about their eyesight
Eye tests are completely free on the NHS for children under 16 (or under 19 if in full-time education). We recommend bringing your child for an eye test every two years, or more often if advised.
Managing Short-Sightedness
Short-sightedness (myopia) is becoming more common in children, but there are ways to slow its progression and help protect your child’s vision for the future. We offer specialist myopia management options, including specially designed glasses and contact lenses that can help reduce the rate of change in your child’s prescription.

Our children's glasses are fun!
Children want glasses to be fun, but they also need to be functional and well-fitted. This is why we stock an incredible range of children's frames in all shapes, colours and sizes to best fit each individual's needs.
Among our range of children's frames, we stock Jelly Bean frames, which are the only paediatric frames designed by opthamologists.
If our optometrist decides that your child needs glasses, the NHS will cover the cost of a standard pair of lenses.
We can also provide sports goggles to keep your child safe when they're playing sport, so if this is something that you're interested in, please get in touch and we will arrange an appointment for you.
