The traditional method of examining the health of the eye involves shining a light into your eye using a hand held instrument called an opthalmoscope. This only allows optometrists to see about 10% of your retina.
We now have a machine called an Optomap camera, which reveals 82% of the retina. Naturally, this helps with diagnosing retinal problems and assessing overall ocular health.
An optomap photo is now part of the majority of routine sight tests at a cost of just £12.50.
